Why Costa Rica makes such a memorable escape

Costa Rica gives you variety in a way few destinations can. One day you can explore the area surrounding Arenal Volcano, the next you can cruise through a wildlife refuge, and later in the journey you can walk through the misty ecosystem of Monteverde Cloud Forest. The tour ends with two nights in Guanacaste, where you can slow down and enjoy the Pacific coast.

This is a strong fit for travellers who want more than a beach vacation. You still have time to relax, but the real value is in the included experiences, local insight and easy flow from one region to the next.

Tour highlights

  • Explore the Monteverde Cloud Forest, one of the world’s most unique ecosystems.
  • Stay near the iconic Arenal Volcano and enjoy the surrounding natural beauty.
  • Visit a local coffee plantation and learn about one of Costa Rica’s most important crops.
  • Take a guided riverboat trip through Cano Negro Refuge in search of caimans, river otters, sloths, monkeys, turtles, birds and butterflies.
  • Experience a family-owned farm, taste local fruit, learn about sustainable growing practices and enjoy a farm-to-table lunch.
  • Cruise across Lake Arenal, Costa Rica’s largest lake.
  • Choose between a hanging bridges walking tour or a canopy zip line adventure in Monteverde.
  • Relax in Guanacaste and visit the beach town of Samara before your final Costa Rican sunset.

A thoughtfully planned itinerary

Your journey begins in San Jose before continuing to Arenal for a three-night stay. From there, you travel to Monteverde, where the cloud forest creates one of the most distinctive natural environments in the world. The final part of the tour brings you to Guanacaste, known for its beaches, ocean views and relaxed pace.

Accommodations are selected for their locations and access to the experience, with stays planned in San Jose, Arenal, Monteverde and Guanacaste. On some departures, alternate hotels may be used.

Who this tour is best suited for

This tour has an overall activity level of 3, which means it is best for travellers who are comfortable being on the go. You should be able to walk and stand for longer periods, handle uneven terrain, climb stairs and manage some longer coach travel days. Costa Rica’s roads can be bumpy in places, but the reward is access to the landscapes, communities and wildlife that make this destination so worthwhile.

The tour travels with an average of 37 people, with a maximum of 44, making it a social and structured way to experience Costa Rica while still enjoying free time to recharge.

Optional Jungle Adventure Pre-Tour Extension

For travellers who want even more time in Costa Rica, an optional 4-day, 3-night Jungle Adventure pre-tour extension is available. This is a great way to deepen the experience before the main tour begins.
